The Autumn Republic by Brian McClellan

20883847Even though everyone gets scattered to the winds, they somehow all miraculously arrive together on the eve of the republic's most important night. No explanations, just fade to black and when the curtain rises, here we all are together again.

You can clearly tell that some stuff went down, we just didn't get to see it. After two books of intense descriptions and advanced dialogue, I found it to be a bit of a shock to have everyone just magically convened again.

Every character has a distinct end to their story, but I can't say it was satisfying. The whole end felt a little too neat and tidy for a trilogy that has been a blood-soaked gore fest of a revolution.

I think I found this so disappointing because the level of writing had improved, and the author had clearly started to find their strength just for the story to end.

Revolution stories aren't really my cup of tea so I'm still unsure if I'll continue to the next trilogy in the same universe, but maybe there will be some closure for the characters from this trilogy. I'm sure my curiosity will get the better of me some day, but for now I need a rest from the bloodshed.
