It's 2021, a new decade, a new future, more books!

Happy New Year, everyone! It is now 2021. Not really sure that has any sway with me, but I've never been into the refreshing properties of starting a new year with a new attitude. But I wish the best to all those who form New Year's Resolutions. Here's to building a better 2021. Cheers!

The Burning Page by Genevieve Cogman

I'm not sure what to make of this series just yet. Irene and Kai have been put on punishment for the overly elaborate and destructive stunt they pulled in Venice. However, life is not that simple for Irene when she has an archenemy as forceful as Alberich.

His thirst for the knowledge of what was in the Grimm fairy tales far exceeds the preparation the Library has to protect that knowledge. Irene's simple mundane gopher work doesn't stay mundane for long.

Part of the reason is because Zayanna is back, and her character is simply brilliant. She has a strong Fitzgerald flapper air to her that just resonates with the fine line between villain and hero she treads.

My favorite character development was Vale's personal struggle as he tries to deal with chaos infestation. In the nature of chaos bringing people to a more stereotypical fictional portrayal and locking them in as fae, we get more of his Sherlockian nature pulled to the front. His battle to decide to accept chaos and become fae was a nice read.

Unfortunately, in what has become formulaic for this series, Alberich hunts Irene down putting her in massive danger and without her friends. Kai and Vale have been separated from Irene, leaving them to come up with some audacious scheme to break in and rescue her. Though she doesn't need any rescuing, thank you very much, she can handle it herself.

It's this formula that has me uneasy with the series, but I'm sticking to my guns to finish all series I have started to make a "clean slate" for new series.
