Seeker by Arwen Elys Dayton (Part 2)
Continuing the cleaning of my bookshelf to eliminate books that are not worthy of re-reading. This has been a rather shocking experience. Books I had given 5 stars five-six years ago were now lining my trash can. The increasing stack was the lead contributor to yet another month long reading slump. Fortunately, a book I had loved so much in 2015 became victorious and started me on a reading binge.
My original review can be found back in the archives here. To be honest, not much has changed about my opinion. The story remains fresh for the young adult fantasy genre 5 years later. I had forgotten just how raw and devastating this story is. You can feel the transitional energy of teenagers becoming adults. Quin, Shinobu, and John are so excited for their futures. They have been training every day in the most extreme conditions to become of the heroes of tomorrow. There is love and joy.
The youthful optimism these teenagers have just before the rug is pulled out from under them is infectious and nostalgic. Dayton captures that energy so realistically it is even more devastating when the world blows apart as the truth is revealed. Then the way each protagonist handles their trauma is heart wrenching. This series is not for the faint of heart, but they are just so good!
