Skyward by Brandon Sanderson - 300th POST!

39353738. sy475 In February I had begun working for my local library. I quickly learned all the regulars and realized my rural county had dozens of patrons with no internet or cable.  They still utilized the beauty of the library for their entertainment. When we were finally mandated to close our doors, I truly worried about our regulars. But my library is wonderful, and they have worked diligently to increase our digital library and ways to get our Wi-Fi accessible outside the building.

To honor their hard work, I'm taking the chance to borrow some great works I really wanted to check out once my ARCs had subsided. It also seems incredibly fortuitous my 300th post is by my favorite author, Brandon Sanderson.

And, boy, what a whopper of a story I present to you today. Leaning more towards the sci-fi bent with starships and aliens, we are told the story of Spensa, daughter of a coward.

The emotions in this one are real, people. The plague of human existence is written to brilliancy only the way Sanderson can. Spensa is isolated her entire childhood by stigma. She daydreams her solution of joining a flight of elite starship pilots, but ends up completely denied any camaraderie except for a talking starship with a proclivity for mushrooms.

This is a story of aligning childhood dreams with young adult realities. It is filled to the brim with frustration, fear, and determination. Spensa finds her biggest fight is not in the skies, but in her own heart.  There is pain and growth, and do I catch just a hint of love? I can't wait to find out.
