The Girl with the Windup Heart by Kady Cross
The conclusion that broke my heart. Having to give this story 2 stars brought some moisture to the eyes.
I was so excited for 312 to become a staple character. So when 312 gains enough sentience to name herself Mila and runaway to Jack Dandy, I had incredibly high hopes. I should know better about having high hopes for what I'm reading.
Mila is perfectly innocent and new to the world, but she is far from stupid. Her insatiable curiosity to learn is beautiful. She has a light that is missing from Jack's life that makes her a perfect partner. But he has been filled with a brutal mistrust of relationships, and send Mila flying. To where? Where else but the local circus where one freak can blend in with all the other freaks.
This was the first romance in this series I didn't cringe at; however, the story just had so many other flaws it quickly became my least favorite of all the series. There were so many motivated undertones and preaching in the story that it just broke me from the story. When one is dealing with A.I., a reader expects a certain dash of the author as a person to show through. Unfortunately, I felt the author's hand too heavily on all the pages, and the world lost a touch of its imagination. I lost my immersion. I lost the wonder.
