Hogfather by Terry Pratchett

It took me two months to read two books. Not what I had been wanting to do with my reading. Two mental heavy hitters in a row really had me reeling to find something lightweight. I decided it was time to do some re-reading. It had been a couple of months without a Pratchett novel, and I could certainly use a good laugh. Unfortunately for me, I had hit Hogfather in my re-read line up and had just watched the British special not too long ago. The whole time I was reading I just had the movie going through my head.

Overall, this is not a bad thing. The on-screen adaptation was quite brilliant when compared to many other "based on a novel" Hollywood attempts. The downside was already knowing the ending to the novel. It has been decades since I read Pratchett I have mostly forgotten all the plots. This makes re-reading lovely. I couldn't find that solace in Hogfather.

Otherwise, I would highly recommend this novel to everyone. The concept of quantum existence and belief is just absolutely top notch. While this book makes you think, it doesn't weigh down the way the last two novels I've read did. There is a childish innocence that is captured so perfectly surrounding the Hogfather.

Plus, this is one novel where we get to see a wide array of Ankh-Morpork. The Watch, wizards, and Death are all present and reeking havoc. I always love the appearance of Death trying to be human. Quite top notch. Oh, and the wizards building a quantum computer. I love the Discworld.

Guess I'll have to find something else on my shelf to alleviate this reading itch, though.
