John Adams by David McCullough

2203. sy475 One would think with all this forced time inside I would have posted a dozen reviews by now, but instead I had entered the realm of the slog. My goal to reach 45 books this year is severely put behind because of this tome. Totally worth it, though.

I traded recommended books with someone to inject something a little different in the TBR pile. I gave them a fantasy (because I heard they liked to read fantasy) and they gave me a biography.

Since I was given their book, and I treat that very seriously, I was determined to read it all the way to the end. David McCullough is a leader in historical biographies. He has a way of bringing the foundations of our country to life. Unfortunately, while the writing style was fluid and interesting, the subject matter was intense. This is a biography of our second president. There is loads of history that go with his achievements.

I learned an incredible amount about the formation of the United States that I feel my education really robbed me. I always loved history class so paid relatively constant attention (which was not common for me), but this biography contained so much that completely shook what I had learned.

I greatly appreciate the opportunity to learn in a way that restructures the way I view the world; I just wish I could have made it through the book faster. Now that the education is out of the way, back to some fiction (and probably more consistent reviewing).
