A Map of Days by Ransom Riggs

32943032. sy475 After a trilogy about a revolution--a very bloody revolution--and a second trilogy about revenge, I think I may have been a little too burnt out to fully appreciate the next story from one of my favorite series.

The whole teenage angst and sticking it to the law just really was not impressing me. I mean I completely understand the coming-of-age portion that comes with becoming your own person while in the shadow of a perceived hero, but the incredibly weird focus on Jacob and Emma's relationship was beyond me.

Overall, the story was well written, the action moved along at a smooth pace, and we got to see a completely new side of peculiardom. I enjoyed the new characters and the new dynamics and didn't close the book hating it, just a little wearied of some plot devices.

I think I'm going to take a little genre break before I move on to book five.
