Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson

The brilliance of Brandon Sanderson continues in the epic saga of "The Stormlight Archive" with Words of Radiance. These tomes are not for the faint of heart with each installment clocking in over 1,000 pages. Surprisingly, I find them to be quick reads as the action and characters make it hard to put down.

We were left with quite a gut wrencher at the end of The Way of Kings, and concluded the history of why Kaladin is motivated and how exactly he got to the shattered plains.

Now we continue forward with the same format but new characters in the interludes. While I found the part/interlude pattern a little jarring in the first novel, I am coming to terms with the flow this time around. The side story of Eshonai holds incredibly important information (and what I feel might be very foreshadowing as well).

Our main heroes are all present in the story, but book two focuses on telling Shallan's history in between the main narrative.  And boy is it quite a doozy.

Then we are left with another gut wrencher at the end, and completely wanting to know how and why.

There is a note at the beginning of Oathbringer that points out Brandon Sanderson has since written a novella that fits between Words of Radiance and Oathbringer that is called Edgedancer. I'm going to go track that down and read it first, so a small break in the series until I manage to pick that up, but we will definitely be back with more "Stormlight Archive" reviews.
