Disruptor by Arwen Elys Dayton
The cover of Seeker is a ram. The house of Quin Kincaid, top Seeker family.
Then the cover of Traveler is a fox. The house of John Hart, target of every other Seeker family.
Now, the cover of Disruptor is an eagle. The house of Shinobu McBain (a completely under represented character in my opinion). The man who tore his mind for love. Can he piece together the fragments long enough to save the world from Maggie?
We return to the chaos of redeeming Seekers with Quin having been left There. The focal has lead Shinobu to believe he is protecting her from all the evil that has been unleashed by the plots of the Middle Dread. In fact, Shinobu believes it is logical that he become the new Middle Dread and solve the whole crisis with this atrocious horde of Watchers in order to hand Quin her dreams on a silver platter. He completely underestimates the level of family of dysfunction however.
Or is his choice really just destiny for Quin to be able to meet Dex instead? Dex, the insane new thread to this intricate web of time and space and almost stealer of the show. Dex starts to share the birth of Seekers with Quin. It is a story that holds far more truths than she may want to know.
Nothing is linear in a world built on quantum mechanics, and Arwen Elys Dayton writes some of the best fantasy science I've read. She stretches the imagination and creates new ways to look at metaphysics. There is so much history and future unraveling throughout the entire series, but it really culminates here in Disruptor.
The descriptions have Quin being the main protagonist, but I really feel that she is just a small member of an elite ensemble cast. This wouldn't be the best series without Shinobu, John, Maud, and the Dreads. I couldn't put the book down and felt completely satisfied with the ending. Another 5 stars to Arwen Elys Dayton.
